The Things That Make Up Each Pair Of Running Shoes

Running is one of the oldest sporting events in the world. It dates back to the times of the Greeks and continues today in various distances on and off the track. Years ago, athletes were either barefoot or wore a pair of sandals. Since this practice doesn't do well for the feet, the running shoe was invented.

The running shoes are made of three basic components. These were namely the outsole, midsole and the upper.

The outsole is what comes into contact with the ground. There are various designs for this to ensure that the runner doesn't slip and is able to forward with each step.

The 2nd component is considered to be the most important because this acts as a cushion between the balls of the feet as it impacts with the ground. This is the reason that most shoe companies use Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA), Polyurethane (PU) or sometimes both for better protection. Air has also be added in between like those offered by Reebok and Nike.

The third which is the upper is considered to be the softest part of the shoe. This is made of leather or some other synthetic material and most runners prefer to tie it than just slip it on.

There are three types of feet and where the person falls will determine which is the right one to be purchased.

Flat footed people for example which account for 60% of the population need to buy the kind that has a medial post and has either a straight or semi curved last for maximum comfort and support in the midsole.

Those who have high arched or supinated feet on the other hand need to get a pair that has a semi curved or curved last in the interior.

A small percent of the public that has ideal feet should get running shoes that either have straight or a semi curved last that will provide moderate cushioning.

After knowing the three types, the only thing figure out is which type you belong to. You may have been using the wrong one for so many years so checking with a sales clerk is the best way to ensure protection for the feet.

It is advisable to always have two pairs of running shoes and use them alternately. This will allow them to get some air and prevent foul odors due to excessive use.

Running shoes should also be changed every 3 months. This is because the rubber underneath will deteriorate due to wear and tear, which could affect its performance on a treadmill or on the road.
